Review of the Film „Bend it like Beckham“


In spite of all its funny scenes, “Bend it like Beckham” deals with the current questions of female independence or the meaning of the family. The Director Gurinder Chaddha relates the story of Jess Bhamra (Parminder K. Nagra), an indian girl, who grows up in England. Although her parents live very conservative, Jess joins the football team “Hounslow Harriers” and creeps, supported by her friend Jules (Keira Knightley), out of the house to follow her dream, playing once a day next to the football star David Beckham.

The film shows interesting parallels between the British girl Jules and the Indian immigrant Jess and bears especially, that both girls share in spite of having different striking colours many ideals. Jules’ mother isn’t less aghast about the football talent of her daughter than Mrs. Bhamra and she also sees a lesbian relationship in a friendly embrace of the two girls.
The refused approach of Jess’ parents to her decision is the follow of their worry about her and at the end they have to except the dreams of their daughter.

All in all is “Bend it like Beckham” a film, which shows, how hard it is to be a Briton with Asian ancestry and how it can be possible that Indian girls can make perfect Chappatis and simultaneous play football like Beckham.

    so ihr trotteln nur mal so: der ORIGINALTITEL heißt Bend it like Beckham, und
    was er geschrieben hat finde ich im großen und ganzen ganz okay!

    Könnt ihr etwa kein englisch?

    du solltest mal lieber lassen kommentare zu schreiiben, wenn du keine ahnung
    hast, heißt doch so schön, wenn man keine ahnung hat einfach mal die fresse
    halten
    im englischen heißt der film nämlich "bend it like beckham"
