Portait of a politician with Dianne Pettonita

Portrait of a politician
Every day we hear names like Obama, McCain or Bush. We are used to have male politicians in political campaigns and in government. But in the US politics and in all European countries, female politicians are getting more and more involved in the political structure. And there isn’t just the first lady, there are even much more women. To find out “who?” “how?” and “why?” we asked a local female politician Dianne Pettonita.
Mrs. Pettonita got involved in politics when she was a student. She worked in political campaignes before becoming a real politician. The thing, that encouraged her to become a politician was the fact, that most of male politicians didn’t care about women’s issues after their election, even if their promised the opposite before it. In addition there are topics like families, child care, equal payment, sexual harassment, abortion, medical situation of poor and old people,(which) women simply know more about.
Of course, there are also difficulties in becoming a female politician. Politics is a male dominated-area, a reason for women to be seen as a threat. In this case, the most important thing is to create respect; by doing this, women create themselves a position of which they can’t be pushed out. Another difficulty is, that become a politician was and even is untraditional for women. Women are always been told to have a family, but after doing it, a women is 30-40 years old, which is 10 years older, than men are, when they start to work in politics.
As a result, there are women, who successfully cope with both things. Diane Pettonita is one of them. Lots of women think, that it isn’t possible to handle with both of them at the same time. Mrs. Pettonita said, that being a politician means travelling a lot and being in different places, especially when a new bill is coming up. Spending time on their own at home, her children learned to be independent. They also support their mother in difficult times and are always happy to do something with the whole family.
Unfortunately, there are also female politicians, who went into politics, without being concerned about women’s problems. They might have been working in a campaign, but they’re not able to solve women’s problems. So, all in all, it doesn’t matter if a politician is male or female, it doesn’t matter which political beliefs this politician has. The most important thing is that this person knows, what to do and how to do something, to do it the best way. And even though men and women are equal, sometimes some of them do it better than the others and the other way around.
