Plastic Surgery for teenagers

Last week I read a newspaper article about a sixteen year old girl from the USA who got a plastic operation as a birthday present from her parents. When I finished reading I was shocked. I could not believe how parents who love their child can make such careless and irresponsable decisions.

This story made me come to the conclusion that there are lots of reasons against plastic surgery for teenagers.

First of all plastic surgeries are very expensive so that only teenagers from rich priviliged families can afford them. This means that ordinary girls get feeling that they are disadvantaged because they cannot "afford beauty". Besides there are mothers who pay their sixteen year old daughters a plastic surgery because they want them to become a model or a pop star. However it is alarming how this whole beauty craze makes people, especially young women, mad.

Apart from this there is the fact that a surgery is not harmless and you always risk your health or even your life. I for myself would never undergo a surgery if it was not really necessary. Besides the body of a teenager is still in a state of growth which makes a plastic surgery even more injurious. According to this I cannot understand the surgeons who perform plastic operations on young girls just thinking about their own profit. How can they have a clear conscience?

I think the main aspect of this topic is that teenagers are extremly affected by media.Young girls get the impression that they are only loved and accepted if they are looking good. Everywhere there are beautiful women and plastic surgery seems to be a common way to fulfil this dream of the perfect body. But the problem is if you start with plastic surgery that early you might get addicted and soon want to change more and more parts of your body.

To put it in a nutshell: there are enough reasons why plastic surgery is nothing for teenagers. In my opinion it is the duty of parents to give their a feeling of self-worth in this superficial world instead of buying them a plastic operation as bithday present.
