The different tribes

All Indian's people of North America lived between Mexico and Canada. The little Hawaii aniseeds native as well as Inuits are not looked as an Indian. The North American Indian people differed in her cultures. There were democratically opposed tribes like the Irokesen and likewise monarchic ones. The boss of a tribe is a chife.

These Indian cultures were the main groups:

Cherokee, Diné, Sioux, Anshinabe, Choctaw, Pueblo, Apaches, Lumbee, Irokesen, Muskogee.

The colonists are coming

In the years 1620 and 1770 over two million people walked to America. So it comes to a strong change between the white and the Indians. The colonists behaved different. The French people gave them presents, during the English people tried to expand their own country with contracts. With the White also came the Christ people and they want to make the Indians to Christ, too, also with violent.

The oppression

In 1763 a separates Indian's area originated from the colonization for the first time. The country was separated by a river. The western part was awarded the Indians and the eastern one the white. At the end of 19-th century the Indians submitted. The massacre of Wounded Knee (1890) marked the victory of the European immigrants over the Indians. The Indians could not go hunting in the uneconomical areas (fields) any more. With the general Allotment Act, the Indian Reorganizations and the Termination wanted the withes to lower the food. The Indians were discriminated. The Canadian department of Indian Affairs stopped the food delivery. Indian children had to become Christ.

Indians today

24.7 million people spent itself in the census in 2000 to be an Indian. 26% more than in 1990. Other1.6 million people said, they are of Indian descent. U.S. Indians own 23 million hectares of land. 85% of the Indians live outside on reservations, mostly in cities. The city with most Indians is New York with 87,000 Indians. To be recognised as an Indian, they must prove their Indian origin about many generations. In the USA lived 20% of the Indians under poverement. The U.S. Indians had 2, 3% of the complete United States of America.
