Quakers

The Quakers are the "Religious Society of Friends". They came into being in 1650. They were followers of Georg Fox.

Quakers believe that there is something of God in everything and everyone. They are not allowed to lie and to swear, they try to live like Jesus,have no holidays ,are against violence, war and slavery and have no dogmas. They have no predudices against othercoloured people or people who are homosexual.

Their meetings are silent but everyone can speak his mind if he think that it is necessary. Even a child has the right to brake the silence. During the meetings those present feel a mighty ghost of love.

In 1947 they got the Nobel Peace Price. Nowdays Quakers live all over the world. The most live in Africa (122.000), in the USA (105.000), Latin America (55.000), Britan and Ireland (21.000) and on the European mainland (1000).

William Penn was also a quaker. He founded Pensylvania in 1681 because the English crown owed his father land in North America. In his state he wanted religious freedom and no slavery. In 1684 there live 7000 quakers in his state.
