Hollywood means “Stechpalmenwald” in german and it´s a district of

L.A., L.A. has 3,9 mio. inhabitants and it´s in California.

Hollywood is the center of the US-American film industry and maybe also of the World.

In the Hollywood Hills is the Hollywood sign, the big letters everybody had seen before, it was built in 1923 to make publicty for some plots in Hollywood. But the Letters are going waste, untill Hugh Hefner, let it replace.(pictures of the Hollywood letters, L.A. ,district Hollywood)

History

In 1911 the first film studio oppend, it was David Horsley´s Nestor Company.In that year more than 10 film studios came from New York,untill 1920 the movie center of the US-American film industry,

The first Celebritys

The first Hollywood celebritys, which are popular all over the world were Marlon Brando (1924-2004)and Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962).

Marilyn Monroe acted in films like “Some like it hot” or “How to marry a millionare”. Marilyn Monroe was a film diva killed herself 1962.

Marlon Brando was born in 1924 in Nebraska and got his first part in New York (Broadway).In 1947 he got a contract in Hollywood and became very famous.He acted in films like “Julius Caesar” and “On the Waterfront”.For his acting he got much Awards and was nominated for the Academy Award for best Actor.(pictures of Marlon Brando and Marilyn Monroe)
